How to write a CV for a pensioner? Personal data

More than 13 percent of pensioners are still working (data from ZUS from 2023), so if you are also looking for employment, you are not alone. You should write a retiree resume in line with your current recruitment requirements to get a chance of getting the job.

Trends in the creation of application documents change over the years. It is worth bearing in mind that current resumes have a limited section with personal information. In the pensioner’s CV , include: name, surname, telephone number and optionally also an e-mail address. You can enter your profession to show yourself as a specialist at the beginning. If you want, also enter the city or town, but do not include information such as date and place of birth or marital status. This data is not needed by the employer, but takes up space in the document. You’d better spend valuable space on more important things like skills and experience.

A pensioner’s CV – what is a professional summary?

A professional summary is a few sentences that give you a chance to convince the employer to your candidacy. They are placed under your personal data so that they are immediately noticed, as they are a summary of your greatest strengths: experience, achievements and competences. In the professional summary in the pensioner’s CV , you can also mention your professional goal, i.e. why you want to work. Your motivation to take up employment may be, for example, an interest in the industry, a passion or a desire to undertake interesting activities.

Work experience – CV for a pensioner

You certainly have extensive professional experience, but you do not have to, and even should not, provide your entire employment history in your pensioner’s CV . Employers usually do not have time to read multi-page application documents, so make sure that your Curriculum Vitae (CV) fits on one, maximum two A4 pages.

How to describe work experience in a pensioner’s CV?

  • Name only two or three of the most recent jobs. Make sure that they are related to the position you are applying for.
  • List jobs in reverse chronology: from newest to oldest, so that the recruiter notices your most recent experience.
  • Add a description of the key responsibilities, you can divide this section into main and additional responsibilities. This will allow the employer to know what exactly you have been doing.
  • Do you have specific professional achievements? Write them in this section because they are your asset.

What skills should be included in a pensioner’s CV?

The skills section is very essential on a retiree resume because it shows what you can do. Pay attention to the fact that the employer wants the employee to cope with the duties of the assigned position, so match the description of the skills to the job offer you are applying for. In your CV, include hard (technical, linguistic) and soft (related to character traits) skills.

Include information about the last stage of your education, for example, university or vocational technical school. Remember that you should not list all the schools you have completed, because if you have a university degree, for example, it will be obvious to the employer that you were previously in high school.

An interesting variety of a pensioner’s CV will be training, especially the latest ones. By entering participation in courses or workshops in your CV, you give the employer a clear signal that you are constantly striving for development, are willing to learn new issues and update your knowledge.

You can supplement your resume with your interests to show that you are active in your free time. Passions are not an obligatory element in a retired CV, but it is worth including them because they will allow the employer to get to know your personality better.

Describe what you like to do, such as:

“In my spare time, I bake and decorate desserts, which helps me develop my creativity and precision.”
“I like to travel around Poland with my friends, my biggest hobby is cycling. I’m also interested in car mechanics.”
